RAEL’S COMMENT:
He has been my Master since my childhood. And it infuriated my whole family when I was asked what I wanted to do when I was an adult and I answered: to live in a barrel like Diogenes…

Diogenes (413-327 BC), originally from Sinope, a town in Asia Minor and contemporary with #Plato and #Aristotle, was a student of #Socrates.
Diogenes, the philosopher-tramp, was from the school of cynics. He lived in a barrel and walked in broad daylight in Athens, a lantern lit in his hand, in search of an authentic man.

For him, the noblest men are those who despise wealth, glory, pleasure and who dominate poverty, darkness, pain and death.

In all things, said the cynics, it is necessary to follow nature, to know how to be content with the essentials, to ignore the behaviors that make us circus animals more than real men.

Cynics therefore proposed a sober and demanding life in which the goods of the world and its multiple temptations were denied.
